Unity breakfast begins year long commemoration

Monday morning, hundreds of people - black and white- {}will break bread together at the BJCC North Exhibition Hall. The event will be the 27th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast. This is the nation's oldest Unity Breakfast.

This year, the breakfast holds even more significance. It is an important part of the kickoff of a year long commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church. Charles Steele, CEO of Southern Christian Leadership Conference, will be the keynote speaker. The theme for the breakfast is "Birmingham Unity: Building on the Legacy of 1963."

Individual tickets to the Unity Breakfast are sold at the BJCC ticket office. The breakfast begins at seven o'clock Monday morning.
