Video: University of Tennessee fraternity member denies alcohol enema in press conference

Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity press conference at the University of Tennessee.

A member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at the University of Tennessee and his lawyer held a press conference denying reports that he performed an alcoholic enema on himself, causing him to go to the hospital for alcohol poisoning.

On September 20, Alexander P. Broughton, 20, of Pi Kappa Alpha was brought to the emergency room and showed a blood-alcohol level thought to be "well over" .4 and appeared "extremely intoxicated and showed signs of physical and possible sexual assault," according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

"Butt chugging", formally known as an alcohol enema is when an individual "drinks" the fluid into his or her rectum with a tube or hose. The alcohol's effects are said to be stronger and felt quicker than when consumed normally.

The fraternity was administratively suspended for 30 days by Pi Kappa Alpha International,{} according to a statement from a university spokesperson.
