Update: Human remains found in the Dolomite area

Update: {}The Birmingham Police Department has begun a homicide investigation into human remains found in the 1500 block of Jackson Street in Dolomite on Tuesday, June 26, 2012.

Officers from the West Precinct responded to the 1500 block of Jackson Street to investigate skeletal remains found in a wooded area just off the roadway. Due to the condition of the remains, officers were unable to determine the gender, age or race. Personnel from the Jefferson County Coroner's Office arrived to take charge of the remains. BPD investigators were notified by the Jefferson County Coroner that examination results found evidence to classify the incident as a homicide.{}

Sgt. Johnnie Williams with Birmingham Police tells ABC 33/40 human remains have been found in a wooded area off Railroad Street and Jackson Street where it meets Commissary Street in Dolomite. Police were called to the area around noon today.{} The death is unclassified at this time.{}
