Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies are searching for a suspect who escaped from a hospital, wearing only a gown, slippers, and handcuffs.
19-year-old Deandrea Miles was in the process of being released from St. Vincent's East when he escaped. Miles is suspected of breaking into a house in Pinson Friday with two other suspects. The homeowner shot him and he was treated for a bullet wound in the chest.
Miles is described as being a 6'4, about 170 pounds, and wearing his hospital gown, one sock, and handcuffs.
Deputies, SWAT, K9 units, as well as the Sheriff's air unit searched a wooded area near the hospital Sunday afternoon. The search has resulted in only finding his hospital bracelet and one hospital sock. The search was suspended just after 8:00 p.m.
Law enforcement warns that anyone who aids or harbors the suspect could face charges.
Chief Deputy Randy Christian is confident Miles will be captured.
