US Marshals looking for two suspects accused of trying to run over lawmen (Update)

Birmingham police have arrested one of two fugitives wanted by the US Marshals, ABC 33/40 has learned.

William Harris, 18, was arrested late Friday afternoon on 25th Court near Finley Boulevard. The second suspect -- 20-year-old Dewayne Deon Thomas -- remains at-large.

Two other men were arrested in the incident, one of whom -- 21-year-old Lorenzo Carter -- was found hiding in a closet, where a .357 revolver and drugs were discovered. The second man arrested -- Trinell King -- was found with outstanding warrants out of Birmingham.

"William Harris was arrested late this afternoon by U.S. Marshals and Deputies from the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.{} Deputy U.S. Marshals and Task Force Officers observed Harris and several black males, and one black female run from a home which was under surveillance.{}{} Harris, 18, was wanted for the March 20,2014, attempted assault of a police officer with a vehicle.{}{} He was arrested after a foot chase in the 1600 Block of 26th Avenue North.{}

"A second suspect, Lorenzo Carter, 21, was taken into custody when he fled into a building that was under renovation.{} Carter was found hiding in a closet, and at that time a .357 Ruger and illegal drugs were also recovered.

"Also apprehended at the scene was Trinell King, black male.{} His arrest was based on warrants out of the City of Birmingham.{}

"Suspect Dewayne Dion Thomas remains at large.{} Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Thomas contact Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777."


The US Marshals Service continues the day-long search for two suspects who fled apprehension Thursday.

The events started around 8am when federal lawmen went to 94th St North in east Birmingham Thursday morning to serve warrant on a man with 30 outstanding warrants, the suspect in a car burglary ring. The suspect fled in a car that was stolen from Trussville and collided with another driver before wrecking near the golf course in Roebuck.

The suspect and other driver were taken to a hospital. Another suspect was arrested later Thursday, but 20-year old Dewayne Deon Thomas and 18-year-old William Harris, remain on the run.Police tried to arrest Thomas around 1pm when he and his accomplice, Harris, tried to hit a deputy marshal with their car, which is 2011 blue Hyundai Sonata reported stolen from Hoover. Police fired a shot trying to stop the vehicle. Thomas is wanted for numerous vehicle burglaries in Jefferson and Shelby county in which weapons and other items of value were taken.Harris is wanted for attempted assault of a police officer and abetting in the commission of a felony.

Police believe the duo is in east Birmingham near Lawson Road.
