Vestavia Hills introduces new city manager

This is the first day on the job for Vestavia Hills's new city manager, Jeffrey Downes.

Tonight, the public will get a chance to meet him.

Downes says the financial situation of the city is very healthy. But, there needs to be a continued focus on economic development. Downes cites the city's sales tax as primary source of revenue, which can provide an outlet for more growth.

Downes, an Auburn graduate, moved here with his family from Montgomery where he served as deputy mayor.{}

Now, he says, he's ready to get to work at his new position.

"What I've learned so far is that Vestavia Hills is a well run city. I just want to continue to build upon that, build my team. And it starts with earning their trust.

The public can meet Downes tonight at the Library in the Forest beginning at 5:00pm.

Downes says he will be open to questions from the public.
