Vestavia Hills toddler in critical condition after nearly drowning in swimming pool

A Vestavia Hills toddler is in critical condition after nearly drowning in his family's pool Sunday afternoon, according to police.

The incident happened around 2:30 pm at a house in the 2800 block of Vestavia Forest Place.

Police said the child was not breathing and didn't have a pulse when rescue crews responded. They were able to get a pulse while they transported the toddler to Children's of Alabama.

It's unclear why the child fell into the pool. Police said he did have adult supervision.
