Volunteers serve Thanksgiving meals to Birmingham's homeless and hungry

Volunteers packed The Jimmie Hale Mission Thursday morning to give back on Thanksgiving.

Meals on Wheels partnered with the non-profit to deliver{}approximately 400 hot meals to those in need.

"We felt that it's important to be thankful on Thanksgiving and bring some joy to people who may not see anybody else today," said volunteer Jim Swimelar.

The Jimmie Hale Mission is also serving two meals to the homeless and hungry.

"God tells us that if you're going to be first, you need to be last," said Jimmie Hale Mission's James Poe. "And if you're going to be great, you need to serve."

Volunteers helped serve meals at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday.
