Week honoring April 27 tornado anniversary starts with business recovery

This week marks the third anniversary of the fatal April 27, 2011 tornadoes. The City of Tuscaloosa wants to showcase how it's building back stronger, safer and smarter. The first event will be an open house for business recovery programs.There will be a recovery programs open house at the Richard A. Curry Environmental Services Building on Kauloosa Avenue on Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.. The recovery operations division was started following the tornado to help businesses and homeowners rebuild. Staff will be on hand at the event to talk to people about programs available including a 20 thousand dollar forgivable loan program.On Tuesday, a ribbon cutting for the environmental services building will be held at 10 a.m.. The building used to house environmental services, emergency management, police and fire departments before the tornado destroyed it.City leaders will read "Molly and the Tornado" to University Place Elementary and Alberta Elementary students on Wednesday.Thursday, recovery videos will air at the Mercy Me Concert at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater at 6 p.m.. The city will also release the videos through social media.
