"Focus @ 4" recently received a question from one of our viewers about the texting ban in Alabama.
D. Michael Gurley wrote in one of our "What's up with that?" posts:
"I see texting daily in cars, yet, I hear nothing about the enforcement of that law. Is it being enforced?"
The answer is yes, according to state trooper Curtis Summerville. From August to the end of 2012, troopers wrote 59 citations for texting violations, which does not include tickets written by individual police departments.
Trooper Summerville believes a public service campaign is working but knows some drivers still break the law.
