Will you turn off your electronics for one hour?
BIRMINGHAM - AL —
People around the world are asked to power down all electronics for one hour Saturday night. One billion people, including local businesses, are expected to participate in Earth Hour.
The Westin Hotel, Sheraton Hotel and Todd English in Birmingham will go dark for an hour starting at 8:30 p.m.. The businesses will stay open. They'll just use candle light.
Todd English is also featuring a special three course menu featuring sustainable local food and an EarthTini drink.
One billion people worldwide are expected to participate to show support for the environment. Famous landmarks, like the Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tour, and Buckingham Palace will also power down.
Last year, a record was set with 128 countries taking part.
Earth Hour started in 2007.
