In the past two days, Birmingham has seen two different superintendents its school system. First, it was Dr. Samuetta Drew, who the board named interim superintendent, and then Thursday, Dr. Craig Witherspoon returned to work. He was reinstated after a temporary restraining order allowed him to go back.
The order last 10 days. Witherspoon's attorney retired federal judge U.W. Clemon says there's a status hearing of the order scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. in Jefferson County court. He says, regardless of the outcome of current meetings between State Superintendent Dr. Tommy Bice and Birmingham school Board President Edward Maddox, he and his client plans to move forward.
