Jennifer Wheat

An Etowah County woman has been arrested and charged with chemical endangerment of a child, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

Jennifer Wheat, of Gadsden, has been arrested and charged with one count of chemical endangerment of exposing a child to an environment in which controlled substances are ingested, produced or distributed.{}

Wheat admitted to ingesting cocaine during her pregnancy.

"It is simply unacceptable for an adult to endanger a child's life with their choice to use drugs," says Sheriff Entrekin.{}

This is the first chemical endangerment arrest since Sheriff Entrekin stood with District Attorney Jimmie Harp and the director of Etowah County Department of Human Resources at a news conference on Monday, May 20 concerning this issue.

Wheat was booked into the Etowah County Detention.
