Update: Man arrested after woman doused with gasoline and burned

Update48 year old Michael Kennedy was arrested at a home in the 1000 block of Wilkes Road in Midfield just before 4pm Monday.


The Jefferson County Sheriff's department is looking for 48 year old Michael Kennedy.{} He's wanted on several charges after allegedly setting his ex-girlfriend on fire. Just after 2:30 this morning deputies respond to a report of a house fire in the 4400 block of Nellie Anderson Street. They arrived to find a 49 year old female victim with extensive burns to her head, arms, upper body and legs. She was transported to the hospital and admitted to a burn unit in serious condition. Investigators say the victim had been in a dating relationship with the suspect for three years. The victim had ended the relationship about a month ago and the suspect left in her 2000 Ford Expedition. Early this morning he returned to the residence where an argument ensued. The suspect then poured gasoline on the victim and set her on fire. The suspect fled in the victim's gold Ford Expedition before deputies arrived. The license plate number is 1B11H83. He may be in the western area of Birmingham, but also has ties to the Huntsville area. Michael Kennedy faces charges of Domestic Violence 1st Degree and Attempted Murder.
