Updated: Woman found dead in Fairfield house

Fairfield Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found inside her house along the 7400-block of Earlwood Road Monday morning.

Police Chief Leon Davis declined to release the victim's identity at the request of family members.

The chief did say the victim was a female in her thirties.

Davis said the home's security system alerted police to trouble early in the morning.{} Officers arrived and found the woman, but they did not see any signs of forced entry.{} Also, police could not determine whether any items had been taken from the house, the chief said.

Davis said those circumstances could point detectives in a handful of directions as they search for the killer.{} So far, police are not ruling out any possibilities.

"The locks could have been picked to gain entry to the house.{} It could have been someone that the victim knew.{} It could have been a relative even," Davis said.{} "So right now, we're just covering all angles from the domestic side to the burglary side."

Davis confirmed the victim had been both shot and stabbed.{} The woman had two children; however, those children were staying with relatives overnight, the chief said.

This is Fairfield's second homicide of 2011.
