A 59-year-old Woodhaven man died Saturday after drowning while working underwater in his pool.
At around 4 p.m., Jefferson County sheriff's deputies were called to a home in the 8700 block of Lakeview Circle on a report of a medical emergency. Upon arriving, deputies found Palmerdale Fire and Rescue workers performing CPR on the victim, who was not breathing after being pulled from the deep end of the pool. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.
According to a news release, deputies determined the victim had been attempting to clear the clogged drain with the assistance of two friends. The man was using a clearing tool in an effort to push the clog through to the drain release located near the pool pump, where the two friends stood awaiting for the clog to emerge.
During this time, the victim's wife came outside to observe the work and reported seeing her husband at the bottom of the pool. After realizing he wasn't moving, she called the two friends for help.
Deputies say the drowning appears to be an accident. Foul play is not suspected. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the entire family.
