There was a time when getting a college degree greatly improved one's chance of finding a job. But due to the weak economic market, many young people have a diploma but remain jobless. In fact, studies show, half of recent college grads are unemployed or underemployed. But local college and university officials hope to turn that around. They're urging students to visit their campus career centers, attend networking events and intern during their matriculation.UAB Professor Bob Robicheaux adds students should also consider majors that yield better job results. He says students who major in engineering, accounting and medical fields generally fare better in the job market.
