Police are investigating an accidental shooting in east Birmingham Saturday night that sent a young girl to the hospital.
Shortly before 8 p.m., a 5-year-old girl was shot in the shoulder area at a home in the 1100 block of Violet Drive. Birmingham fire and rescue transported the girl to Children's of Alabama.
According to the victim's grandmother, the girl was accidentally shot by a relative playing with a gun.
An investigation remains ongoing.
