Another warning coming from U. S. Health officials about a commonly prescribed antibiotic and your heart.
The Food and Drug Administration says, the antibiotic azithromycin , also known as Zithromax,or Zmax may slightly raise the risk of death in patients with heart problems.
FDA experts say the drug and others in its class called macrolides can cause abnormal changes in the electrical activity of the heart that may lead to a potentially fatal irregular heart rhythm.
Other doctors say, the risks associated with azithromycin appear to be small.
and other antibiotics also have the potential for an abnormally fast heartbeat that can lead to cardiac arrest.
