When your doctor prescribe you medication do they often inform you of the possible side effects?
Some scientists at the University of British Columbia conducted an investigation into that question.
A new study indicates drug company representatives provide family doctors with little or no information about the harmful effects of medicines.
The new research also shows that many U.S., Canadian and French physicians prescribed the promoted medications anyway.
Researchers say the study revealed that drug company salespeople failed to provide any information about common or serious side effects or warn doctors about types of patients who should not use the medicine in 59 percent of the promotions.
They say serious risks were mentioned in only 6 percent of the promotions.#
