5 felony arrests made in Cherokee County in unrelated investigations

Cherokee County Sheriff's Office say they made five felony arrests in unrelated drug and criminal investigations Tuesday.

31-year-old Johnathan R. Butler, of Centre, was arrested on seven counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, and multiple counts of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Authorities say Butler was on the run and taken into custody in the Ferrell Community. Janice M. Lowe, 61, was taken into custody at the same time on charges of hindering prosecution.

40-year-old Kevin Johnson, of Ohio, was arrested for drug trafficking. Investigators say a large amount of methamphetamine was seized from Johnson.

61-year-old Tracy Maxwell, of Centre, was arrested on a parole violation warrant, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of paraphernalia.

34-year-old James J. Clay, of Gaylesville, was arrested for a SORNA violation.

All suspects were taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center.
