Avondale kidnapping suspect set to plead guilty
A kidnapping suspect plans to plead guilty to federal charges in connection to a crime where the victim made a dramatic escape from a car trunk.
Court documents show Manuel Ali Towns wants to change his plea to guilty. A hearing is set for September 28 for Towns to formally enter his plea.
Towns was arrested in March on charges in connection with the kidnapping and robbery of Brittany Diggs from Avondale. She was held at gunpoint before being forced into her car trunk during the robbery.
She escaped from the car and ran to a gas station for help.
In addition, Towns also faces two other federal charges including carjacking and charges in state court.
