Crews from Birmingham Water Works arrived on Glenbrook Drive to find water shooting more than 50 feet in the air.

The water main break happened before 3:00 a.m. It remained unclear Friday morning what caused the water main to burst. Birmingham Water Works crews were able to turn the water off but repairing the break was expected to take longer.

By 7:00 a.m. crews at the scene told ABC 33/40 it would likely take another 5-6 hours before water could be restored to houses in the area.
