Cyclist killed, 2 drivers injured in crash in Spanish Fort
SPANISH FORT, Ala. (AP) —
State troopers say a cyclist has died in a crash in south Alabama that also left the drivers of two vehicles hospitalized.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Trooper Jamie Maloy said in a statement that 38-year-old Christopher Allen Jerkins died when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a 2001 Honda Accord early Thursday morning on U.S. 31 near Spanish Fort.
Maloy says the driver of the Honda swerved to try avoiding Jerkins. Authorities say the sedan crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck. Jerkins, of Robertsdale, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Maloy says the driver of the Honda and the pickup truck were both taken to Thomas Hospital in Fairhope and the crash is under investigation.
