Escaped inmate recaptured in Decatur

Brian Oneal Williams; escaped inmate from Decatur work release center

UPDATE (7:51 p.m) A state work release inmate who walked away from a job site in Decatur on Saturday has been recaptured according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

Brian O’Neal Williams, 28, was taken into custody by Department of Corrections officials at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday.

A tip led authorities to a hotel on Beatline Road in Decatur where Williams was found and arrested without incident.

William is serving a five-year sentence on a 2016 first-degree theft of property conviction in Morgan County.

He was assigned to the Decatur Work Release Center and now faces charges for the escape.


Alabama Department of Correction Officials say inmate Brian O'neal Williams, 28, has failed to return from a work release detail in Decatur.

Correction Officers said inmate Williams failed to return to the facility from his assigned employer.

Williams is described as a 6'4 black male, weighing 175 lbs, and has black hair and brown eyes. He was reportedly last seen wearing a red sweatshirt and grey sweatpants.
