Family celebrates UAB's first baby born in 2018
A Gardendale family is celebrating the first baby born at UAB hospital this year.
Eastan Wade Hogeland is a six pound surprise born six minutes after midnight on New Year's day. His parents, Alissa Allred and Michael Hogeland, did not expect him to arrive this early.
Both say their baby boy comes after a difficult 2017. They lost a family member last year and learned of another one moments before we walked into the hospital room.
They believe Eastan's birth is a sign of positive things to come.
For Michael, it's the first of his children he has seen on their day of birth. He says this makes it extra special for this young dad.
Hogeland says, "The greatest thing I have ever felt in my life period. 2017, wasn't a good year. He is my savior. He's the caboose, he is the one who is going to wrap it all up. Gonna sum it up for me and make me the better man that I know that I can be."
This is the fourth child born into their family.
Allred and Hogeland are also saving the date. The couple is hoping for a March wedding.
