Brush fire near Overton Road no longer active, smoky conditions linger

A fire located near the Cahaba River is no longer active according to the Alabama Forestry Commission.

Smoke still filled the air Thursday morning near Liberty Park . The fire at one point spanned 3-5 acres on a hill on the east side of Overton Road said Alabama Forestry Commission spokeswoman Coleen Vansant.

Firefighters from the Vestavia Hills Fire Department, Birmingham Fire-Rescue, and the Cahaba Valley Fire Department were called to battle the fire.

Vansant says because of the terrain, the forestry commission will have to put the bulldozer on the ground and get a containment line around it to control it.
