Gadsden man charged in connection with fire at Etowah Co. Detention Center
ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. —
A Gadsden man jailed for identity theft and trafficking stolen identity charges now faces a felony arson charge for trying to damage property of the Etowah County Commission.
Court records show William Austin Davis is being charged for a fire on September 3.
Davis had been held in the Etowah County jail since his arrest in August after being found in possession of several credit cards with the names of different people on them.
Court records show Davis had been arrested in March for trafficking stolen identities and that his bond had been revoked.
A spokeswoman for the sheriff said steps are being taken to remove items that inmates could possibly use to begin fires.
However, one of the previous fires was sparked by tampering with an electrical outlet and those cannot be removed from the facility.
