JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) - Jefferson County authorities say suspect Dereck Walker surrendered Tuesday to Escambia County authorities in Pensacola, Fla. Authorities were able to obtain a confession and the gun used in the crime.
Walker will be extradited to Jefferson County, where he currently has arrest warrants for attempted murder and armed burglary.
Walker's ex-wife is "not expected to recover" from her injuries, Jefferson County Sheriff's officials say.
Authorities say a 45-year-old woman has been placed on life support as a result of domestic violence.
Monday morning, Jefferson County deputies arrived at a home on Trenton Street to find a woman suffering from gunshot wound. She was transported to an area hospital, where she was later placed on life support.
Deputies say the woman's ex-husband broke into the home where she and her children live. The children were able to flee to a neighbor's home and were not injured. The woman and suspect began to argue when he pulled a gun and shot her.
The man, identified as 46-year-old Dereck Jamaille Walker, drove away from the scene in a 1996 silver Acura with a tag reading 1CM3884.
Walker is described as a bald male with a beard. He is 5'8" tall and weighs roughly 200 pounds.
