Man dies after physical altercation with deputies involving a Taser

The Etowah County Sheriff's Office says a man died after a physical altercation with deputies, involving a Taser.

Update:

The man who died has been identified as 39-year-old Chris McKinney of Gadsden.


The Etowah County Sheriff's Office says a man died after a physical altercation with deputies, involving a Taser.

According to officials, a female entered the Etowah County Sheriff's Office around 5:00 p.m., Wednesday afternoon, saying a man was in the parking lot harassing people.

Two deputies found the male subject about to enter the Sheriff’s Office and began speaking with him.

Natalie Barton, Director of Communications with the Etowah County Sheriff's Office says a physical altercation began and a taser was used on the man. Medical personnel were called to the scene and the man was transported to a local hospital where he later died, Barton says.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Oxford Police Department investigators will be working this case.
