Man dies after vehicle leaves roadway, crashes into creek

State Troopers say a man crashed and died in a creek Saturday in Hale County, near Akron

Alabama State Troopers are investigating after a single-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday, June 17, claimed the life of a man from Akron.

Senior Trooper Reginal King said Richard Douglas Steward, 61, was killed when the 1996 GMC Jimmy he was driving left the roadway and entered a creek.

Trooper King said Steward, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at 12 a.m. on Clary Hill Road, approximately five miles north of Akron in Hale County.

Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
