Man fatally struck on Red Mountain Expressway identified
HOMEWOOD, Ala. —
A man was struck and killed by a car near downtown Homewood Tuesday night, Birmingham Police confirm.
Officers were dispatched to the scene on Red Mountain Expressway North at 21st Avenue at 7:47 p.m. The man was transported to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Jefferson County Coroner identified the man as 67-year-old Charles Frank Norton, who suffered from dementia.
Caretakers took him to an adult daycare for the day and when they came to pick him up he refused to get in the car. Norton began walking toward Vulcan and was somehow hit by a vehicle.
Police have opened investigation into this incident but are not expecting charges.
