Ground breaking ceremony for new Mercedes-Benz facility in Bibb County

More than 400 new jobs are coming to Bibb County. Mercedes-Benz is expanding to the county with a new Global Logistics Center and parts facility.

This comes just a day after Mercedes-Benz announced 600 new jobs in Alabama. The jobs in Bibb County will be part of that 600.

"It's an incredible development for the state and the community and the Birmingham metro area. This is bringing more jobs to our region. It's a sizeable investment over a billion dollars, over a million a half square feet of building space," says Birmingham Business Alliance President Brian Hilson.

The exact number of jobs in Bibb County will be 429. Local resident James Knight says, "I think it'll be good for the community it'll be a lot of jobs people can get."

Friday James knight was sitting with other Bibb County residents selling items on the side of Highway 11. He says a lot of people in Bibb County are out of work and need jobs. Christy Taylor is one of them. "I lived here for about 14-15 yeas something like that and there was never any good jobs around here in Woodstock," says Taylor.
