Moller Tech brings hundreds of jobs to Bibb County
Hundreds of new jobs are coming to Bibb County as part of a $1.3 billion Mercedes-Benz U.S. International expansion announced in 2015.
People already working at the plant told ABC 33/40 it's changed their lives.
"The plant is awesome, my coworkers are awesome. I have an awesome team leader and plant manager," one Moller Tech employee said.
The $46.3 million facility will make parts for a new line of Mercedes-Benz SUVs.
"In 1996, we didn't build a single car in Alabama," BBA Sr. Vice President Rick Davis said, "This year, we're going to build over one million."
Davis said the quality of the workforce is what separates Alabama from the rest.
"This will enable people who live in Bibb County now, who are driving to Tuscaloosa, Birmingham or other places for jobs to be able to stay here and have a career."
Secretary of Commerce Greg Canfield said each time a supplier chooses this state, it further affirms its leading role in the automotive industry.
"It fits in nicely to the state's rural strategy, to really help expand opportunities in rural Alabama."
