Body camera footage is under review tonight.
It could help authorities figure out exactly what happened that led to the shooting death of a man in Chilton County. We know it involved a Clanton police officer and a Chilton County deputy.
The State Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation. ABC 33/40 expects to learn new details from the Chilton County District Attorney's office Wednesday. They are holding a news conference.
Right now, Chief Assistant District Attorney C.J. Robinson is reviewing the body camera footage, 9-1-1 calls and other evidence.
"When there's a department that has an officer involved shooting, they do request our assistance in investigating," Trooper Chuck Daniel with the Alabama Law enforcement Agency explains.
The shooting took place Saturday afternoon, at 1855 County Road 701 in Chilton County. "Everything that we do talk about is an ongoing situation, so details are very limited," Daniel said.
The Chilton County District Attorney's office confirms, a Chilton County Sheriff's deputy and a Clanton police officer fired their weapons, killing a man.
What happened leading up to that shooting has not been released.
"When we are requested by an outside agency to investigate an officer involved shooting, we become the lead agency," Daniel explains. "We manage the crime scene. We collect the evidence. We send it off to be analyzed. Then, after that, we submit our report the the DA's office."
We are told the shooting took place outside a residence on Chilton County Road 701. Chief Assistant District Attorney C.J. Robinson would not confirm whether the man shot was the homeowner.
Crime scene tape remains at a gate to a pasture next to the house.
Right now, all the evidence is under review.
"They want an independent, accurate investigation that reveals the exact details of what took place," said Daniel.
ABC 33/40 spoke to the coroner in Chilton County to learn the identity of the man killed. We were told that information would not be released.
UPDATE: The Chilton County District Attorney's Office tells ABC 33/40 that two officers were involved in the shooting and that the subject died as a result.
A Media conference is scheduled for Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the court house with the Chilton County District Attorney.
Original: The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation, along with agents from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency have been requested to investigate an officer involved shooting in Chilton County.
The requests were made by Sheriff John Shearon in relation to an incident which occurred on Saturday, January 23 at 1855 County Road 701 in Chilton County.
The Chilton County Sheriff's Office and the Clanton Police Department are the agencies involved.
