Racing legend helps open up exhibit at Vulcan Park & Museum
Red Farmer will turn 85 this fall and the NASCAR legend is still racing, believe it or not.
Farmer said he ran the short track at Talladega just this past week. Now a whole new generation of racing fans will get the chance to learn about Farmer and the rest of the Alabama gang.
The brand new Legacy of Auto Racing exhibit opened Wednesday at Vulcan Park and Museum.
Farmer and the rest of the Alabama gang are front and center amidst the collection of racing memorabilia that fans of all ages will enjoy. But Farmer hopes it'll educate the sport's younger fans.
"Back in the day when we didn’t have anything and everything was made out of junkyard parts, we didn’t order anything like you do now. You can order anything you need for a race car, but we had to go to the junkyards and make our stuff. It makes you proud that we got this thing started, because like I said, without all these people back in the day, there would be no racing today," said Farmer.
