Rescue crews recover body of deceased teen girl at Ski Lake
LAKE VIEW, Ala. —
UPDATE (10:14 a.m) - In a release, Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit Commander Gary Hood said investigators learned the victim, 14 year old Madison Reed, was on a pontoon boat on Ski Lake with friends and one of her friend’s parents.
Witnesses reported the victim was sitting on the front of the boat, letting her feet drag under the water while the boat was in motion.
Witnesses said Reed fell off and went under the boat.
Commander Hood said two witnesses on the boat jumped into the water in an attempt to help, but could not locate her.
Tuscaloosa Fire Department’s Dive Team responded.
At approximately 10:00 PM, the search team located the body in the vicinity of where she was last seen.
It appeared the victim was struck in the head by the boat propeller.
Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's and Lake View authorities were out searching for a missing 14 year-old girl on Ski Lake since 5 p.m Saturday afternoon after receiving a call that a teen had fallen from a boat into the lake.
Rescue crews discovered the teens body shortly after 10 p.m.
Authorities told ABC 33/40 on scene that the teenage girl is deceased.
ABC 33/40 spoke with Lake View's Mayor who said the girl was on a boat with friends, and that the boat's operator saw her fall off and dove in the lake but was not able to find her.
