Pelham PD: Suspect charged after firing at officers during chase
PELHAM, Ala. —
A 38-year-old man is facing multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder, following a police chase Monday night.
Pelham Police say John Arden Mason initiated a chase after being pulled over for a traffic stop on Valleydale Road. Mason, who was out on bail for a separate charge at the time of the incident, was wanted on a domestic violence charge in Bessemer.
During the stop, Mason allegedly motioned an officer to his vehicle before speeding away. The suspect drove back onto Valleydale to a Lowe's store. While attempting to elude authorities in the parking lot, Pelham Police say Mason fired at officers multiple times.
Ultimately, Hoover Police and a K-9 unit assisted in the apprehension of the suspect after he ran into the treeline.
Mason is charged with two counts of attempted murder, attempting to elude, obstruction of justice, carrying a pistol without a license and possession of marijuana. Armstrong is being held on $137,000 bond.
Pelham Police will be holding a news conference at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday to reveal further details.
