Suspect in Mike Gilotti's shooting death asks for trial outside Jefferson County
HOOVER, AL —
A 17-year-old suspect in a Hoover Iraq war veteran’s death wants his trial moved outside Jefferson County.
ABC 33/40 News obtained the court record for the motion for a change of venue in Charleston Wells' case.
Wells is one of two teens charged with murder for Mike Gilotti’s death in 2016.
Wells’ attorney says extensive coverage of the murder makes it impossible for his client to get a fair trial in Jefferson County.
Wells’ co-defendant, 18-year-old Ahmad Johnson, is scheduled for trial first.
Johnson’s attorney just filed a motion seeking to have April 3rd trial date pushed back.
