Trussville veterinarian accused of buying 18 grams of fentanyl off dark web
SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. —
A 46-year-old Trussville veterinarian is accused of buying fentanyl off the dark web using bitcoin, according to authorities.
Law enforcement in New York contacted Alabama authorities to tell them a package of fentanyl intended for Shelby County was intercepted at JFK Airport. Authorities identified the intended recipients and conducted a search of the intended address.
Lt. Clay Hammac, with the Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force, says that during the operation it was discovered that David Wallace, 46, purchased the fentanyl using the dark web. In addition to Wallace, 33-year-old Dana Marie Leslie was arrested.
Roughly 18 grams of fentanyl was seized in total.
Wallace and Leslie both face a charge of conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime.
