Two Southside officers charged with sex crimes

Brian Walker and Jonathan Perry resigned from Southside Police following formal charges filed by an Etowah County grand jury.

Two Southside Police officers were indicted on multiple sex crime charges by an Etowah County grand jury.

According to court records, 41-year-old Jonathan Perry Works is charged with two counts of first degree rape and two counts of first degree sodomy.

Works is being held on $100,000 cash bond.

In addition, 43-year-old Brian Edward Walker has been charged with two counts of first degree rape.

Walker is being held on $50,000 cash bond.

ALEA SBI investigators first learned of the alleged incidents on November 21st. A grand jury returned an indictment after reviewing the investigators' findings.

Southside Mayor Wally Burns says both officers handed in their resignations within a week after charges were formally filed.

Both officers were suspended prior to their resignations due to conduct violations within the police department, the mayor says.
