UA hiring 116 faculty members by fall
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. —
The University of Alabama is planning to add more than 300 faculty members over four years.
116 of the positions will be filled by fall.
The positions are in response to record-high enrollment in 2016.
The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama labels the faculty positions "knowledge-based jobs". They believe the jobs will help diversify the local economy and grow the tax base.
"It's really raising the medium income level in many cases," said chamber CEO Jimmy Page. "There are the type jobs where people buy houses, they buy cars, they have more discretionary spending in the retail community".
UA said it is looking to hire both new and experienced faculty.
