Alfred Angelo Bridal silent as customers told company shut down
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) - Well-known bridal company Alfred Angelo remains silent Thursday night amid reports customers are being told the entire company has shut down.
“It makes it a lot worse, so now I don’t know what I’m going to have, I loved my dress,” said bride-to-be Teri McKerlie.
McKerlie, who has spent months planning her January 2018 wedding, says she was stunned to first find out on social media that Alfred Angelo was reportedly shutting down.
“I thought it had to be a joke, there’s no way, they would have called me,” McKerlie said. “I called them and they said they’re closing today.”
Multiple customers at Alfred Angelo’s store on Congress Avenue in Boynton Beach told CBS12 they were told the same story by employees, that they were notified that morning that the company was shutting down.
McKerlie showed up to the store to find out if she would be able to obtain her $1,000 wedding dress which was paid in full.
“I loved everything, it’s a big ball gown, it’s sparkly, and it was a big dress,” McKerlie said. After leaving the store, she told CBS12 the store did not have her dress but did have one in her size in stock. It will now be a matter of tweaking the dress elsewhere before the big day.
Customers told CBS12 they were told by store employees they had until 8 p.m. Thursday to get their dresses from the store, while others had their dresses shipped out by FedEx to addresses on file.
Several customers at the store and online told CBS12 they have been told to contact Stearns, Weaver, and Miller law firm about outstanding issues with Alfred Angelo. The firm’s phone number is 305-789-3553.
The Wall Street Journal reports, citing company sources, that Alfred Angelo Bridal hired Miami-based Stearns, Weaver, and Miller law firm to guide the company through legal proceedings for bankruptcy protection.
Alfred Angelo Piccione and Edythe Vincent Piccione founded the company in 1933. The company since grew to operating 60 stores across the U.S and selling merchandise in more than 1,400 retail stores across the U.S. and the globe.
The company has not responded to requests for comment, and as of Thursday night has not released any public statement on its website, social media or other forum to say what is happening.
Frustrations boiled over online as customers say Alfred Angelo has not responded to the reports from employees being told the company is shutting down effective Thursday night.
Customer Donna Barash told CBS12 as she left the company’s Boynton Beach store Thursday that she believes the company has left brides-to-be and employees in a bad position.
“I hope the people that did this realize what they’re doing because it’s very, very sad, unprofessional, not common courtesy … I was just one of the fortunate ones,” Barash said.
