Consumer Product Safety Commission issues safety alert for fidget spinners
(WZTV) - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a safety alert for fidget spinners.
In a statement from CPSC acting chairman Ann Marie Buerkle, Buerkle says the agency is investigating "some reported incidents associated" with the product which has taken the country by storm.
There have been some reports of fires involving battery-operated fidget spinners and the agency warns the plastic and metal pieces can break off, posing a choking hazard to young children.
The CPSC says fidget spinners should be kept from small children and older children should not place the devices in their mouths.
Buerkle says while the spinners are fun, consumers and companies should be aware of the safety concerns associated with fidget spinners.
