Auburn names Stidham starting quarterback
AUBURN, Ala. —
Gus Malzahn ended the debate, announcing on Twitter that Jarrett Stidham won Auburn's quarterback battle.
Stidham transferred to Auburn in January. He played in ten games, including three starts at Baylor University in 2015 before deciding to switch schools in the wake of Bears coach Art Briles firing. He spent last year at a junior college, but wasn't a part of the football team so he has three years of eligibility remaining.
Now that Stidham has locked down the starting role, attention shifts to the competition to be his backup. Sean White has started 16 games the past two seasons but Auburn coaches have also been impressed with freshman Malik Willis.
Auburn opens the 2017 season at home against Georgia Southern on Sept. 2nd. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
