Auburn softball knocks off No. 1 Oklahoma in season opener

Kendall Veach homered twice and Auburn was quick to move past last season's WCWS loss with a 3-2 win over Oklahoma.

The Sooners beat Auburn to win the WCWS title last season. They're ranked No. 1 to begin this season and Auburn is ranked No. 2.

Courtney Shea delivered an RBI single to get the Tigers on the board in the 1st inning. Veach homered to centerfield in the 3rd inning and right-center in the 7th inning.

Starting pitcher Makayla Martin took a shutout into the 7th inning. Oklahoma put together a rally, scoring two runs before Kaylee Carlson came on in relief and struck out the final two batters for the save.

Auburn (1-0) plays again tonight, taking on the University of Washington at 7:00. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

The season-opening tournament, the Triple Crown Tournament is being played in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
