JSU adopts 'next man up' mentality
NASHVILLE, Tenn. —
Jacksonville State football is the darling of the OVC once again.
The Gamecocks were picked to finish first in the Ohio Valley Conference by the league's coaches and Sports Information Directors. They received 16 of 18 possible first place votes.
JSU has won three consecutive OVC titles and 24 straight OVC games but that was with the help of quarterback Eli Jenkins and receiver Josh Barge, who both finished up their playing career last season.
"I know a lot of people are kinda figuring out how we're gonna fill the gaps from obviously the guys who left last year, but we just believe in the next man up. We've got guys who are just as good as those guys who are gone from last year."
JSU opens the 2017 season against Chattanooga on Aug. 26 in the Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff at Montgomery's Cramton Bowl.
