Jacksonville State is the favorite to win the Ohio Valley Conference, according to the leagues coaches and Sports Information Directors..

JSU received 16 of 18 possible first place votes, making it the heavy favorite to win the conference title for the fourth consecutive year. The Gamecocks have won 24 straight league games. They're the favorites until the rest of the league proves otherwise.

"I think it's a legacy that our former classes have left of kinda where we want to be," coach John Grass said. "At first everybody was kinda worried about the expectations but that's where you want to be. That's where you wanna shoot for."

Senior defensive end Darius Jackson, who attended McAdory High School, was named Preseason Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. Jackson is one of nine Gamecocks who earned spots on the Preseason All-OVC team, which is more than any other team in the league.

On offense, senior running back Roc Thomas, senior offensive lineman Justin Lea and senior offensive lineman Dylan Cline received Preseason All-OVC honors.

On defense, Jackson is joined by junior defensive lineman Randy Robinson, senior safety Siran Neal, senior linebacker Joel McCandless, sophomore safety Marlon Bridges and senior Reggie Hall.

JSU opens the season against Chattanooga on Aug. 26 in the Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff in Montgomery's Cramton Bowl.
