Cullman's Jacob Heatherly didn't have to wait long to hear his name in this week's MLB Amateur Draft.

The Cincinnati Reds selected the pitcher with the second pick of the third round on Tuesday. Heatherly was the 77th player drafted overall.

"Well I've had one goal in mind my whole life and that's to be a big leaguer. And I'm still gonna stick with that because this is just the beginning," Heatherly said. "There's a lot of things to be done and there's a lot of work to be done. I'm really happy."

Last season, Heatherly finished 10-1 and struck out 116 batters.

Cullman baseball has a big board at the baseball stadium listing the schools MLB draft history. Heatherly is the 12th players in program history to be selected.

"It's really crazy. I'm really grateful for it," Heatherly said. "It's gonna be really awesome to see it on that sign. I can't thank my coaches enough from here, my teammates, my friends, my family. It's been a great journey."
