Locust Fork beats Pisgah 72-62 for first 3A girls title

Kimberly Horton scored 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting to lead Locust Fork to a 72-62 victory over Pisgah Friday in the Class 3A girls state championship game.

It's the first state title for Locust Fork (35-1).

Carissa Horton added 16 points and seven rebounds while Ashlyn Adkins scored 15. Rachael Baker had 11 points and seven boards. Madison Cater scored nine and dished out six assists.

Annie Hughes scored 27 points and collected eight rebounds to lead Pisgah (27-8). Presley Higdon had 21 points and seven boards as the duo combined for all but 14 of Pisgah's points.

Locust Fork, which led by as many as 16 in the first half, made 10 of 28 3-pointers.

Pisgah was seeking its sixth state title and first since 2005.

Higdon's jump shot cut the score to 67-62 with 43 seconds left, but Locust Fork scored the game's final five points.
